Experience
For the past three years, I was employed as an English Instructor and Learning Manager for grades 8-12. Additionally, I developed and coordinated the RTI program for the school, a program which stressed learning motivation and organization skills. My past experience includes 15 years of private and homebound tutoring for middle and high school students, as well as short and long term substitute assignments in all subject areas. I specialize in formal technical writing, such as research papers. I stress the need to not only be grammatically correct, but to also be aware of and understand the concept of plagiarism. This tends to be a difficult area for students because of the opportunity and ease offered through today's computer technology to cut and paste directly from the internet. In my experience, I have worked with students who struggled with plagiarism and the severity of 'using another person's words as your own.' Writing is a personal experience which requires practice. It is not an immediate skill. Technical Writing involves usage of proper grammar, revisions, and proofreading. In addition to writing, I have vast experience in literature interpretation and discussion. I have developed numerous curriculums based on classic and modern novels. I am an avid reader and love to introduce students to in-depth discussions regarding character and plot development. Students will also learn about the author and the author's motivation in writing the novel. This is a forgotten aspect in many literature lessons, yet it is vital for understanding the characters and plot.

Hobbies
It is my belief that students naturally ‘want’ to learn. Curriculum needs to be motivating. It needs to catch a student’s attention and inspire interest, while offering support that will increase the student’s confidence and competence. As a teacher, I need to encourage and influence students to learn at their highest level. Student learning, motivation, confidence, and competence all begin with the teacher. My devotion to my students is demonstrated by my love for the job and my love for learning. We learn every day, no matter our age and I want students to actively seek to learn in their lives.
